Walter L. "Wally" Bain's Obituary
Walter L. "Wally" Bain, 75, of Eustis, passed away on January 13, 2019. He was born in Roanoke, Virginia, and moved to this area in 1968 from Cocoa Beach, Florida. Wally graduated from Milligan College in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in science.
Wally was very active leader in his church, serving as deacon, elder, choir member and Sunday school teacher.
He taught many years at Mount Dora High School and was selected Teacher of the Year for Mount Dora High, Lake County and was a finalist for Teacher of the Year in the State of Florida.
During his time at MDHS, Wally was recognized for his innovation in the classroom, teaching and developing curriculum for marine biology, anatomy and physiology, and photography.
He was instrumental In operating an environmental program at the county’s limnology lab, conducting field trips focused on marine science. In addition, he led student trips to the Marine Science Station in Crystal River, Florida.
Later in his career, Wally served as a program specialist, developing training for employees of Lake County Schools in a variety of areas including drug education and managing antisocial behavior. He also was a national trainer for the American Federation of Teachers.
Wally is survived by his wife Lynn. They were married for 52 years. Also surviving are his sons; Christopher (Sonia) Bain of Pound Ridge, New York, and Joshua Bain of Mount Dora, Florida, and his grandsons; Caleb Bain and Janak Bain. Memorial Services will be held in the Lake Eustis Christian Church on Saturday, January 19th at 1 PM with Mr. Kevin Harkey, Minister officiating. With visitation with the family after the service.
