The first Florida Christian Youth Convention I attended was held at First Christian Church in Wauchula, FL where Wally was a fellow teen and his Dad, Kenneth Bain ministered. I followed Wally to Milligan College when he was a Jr and I was a Freshman. He and I dated sisters and on our way home to FL on school breaks, we'd stop in East Point at the Harkey home. Wally's incredible intellect, contagious smile, quick wit and love of God inspired us all! I feel blessed that I had the privilege of knowing this wonderful man who was a gentle man and a gentleman! Mr. Bain was my favorite teacher at MDHS. I took as many classes as possible with him and went to Crystal River twice. He was a pious man. I didn’t understand it then, but today I realize he reflected the character of Jesus Christ. RIP Mr. Bain and THANK YOU for your service!

Mr. Bain started my path to becoming a physician. Biology/Marine Biology/Anatomy classes were the ones which opened my eyes to the biological sciences and my passion for them was stoked by his teaching methods and his dedication to quality learning and responsibility for excellence. Marine Biology was my first love, but Anatomy and a severe family medical crisis directed me to my career. A great man, educator,and motivator. There are certain teachers who really care about their students, who go above and beyond what is required of them. Mr. Bain was certainly one of those. He taught me photography, the particulars of camera operation and darkroom processes. He kept in touch with me for a few years after high school and even had me come and do a talk to his class once. To remember a teacher 42 years after graduation shows the impression he made on me. I went on to have a long career as a professional photographer and his lessons were never forgotten. My sympathies to his family, I know he will be deeply missed.

Wally was a colleague of mine at Mount Dora High School. Respect for Mr. Bain was deep and well-deserved as both an educator and as a man. His humor and optimism was compelling and defined the general good feeling on campus — every day. As a beginning teacher in 1980, I learned much from Wally's example and guidance ... we all did. Godspeed, Mr. Bain. You were the kind of teacher that every child deserves.

Wally worked with AFT's ER&D program, and I met him when several of us met to refine training materials. He was a man of great heart, a love for the profession and for the union. He was kind, thoughtful, a man of good humor and intelligence. His contribution to improving the profession was invaluable. I counted him as a dear friend as well as a colleague.
