Happy Mother's Day in Heaven Sue. Thank you for being part of my life the last 7 years. Love and miss you. Debra in Michigan
Sue was the very best sister-in-law! She was such a help to me back in 1963 when Jerry and I got married; we stayed with her and Roy the first few weeks of our married life and she was such a comfort and teacher to me. And then when they moved to Texas, we couldn't have been happier - just sorry it didn't last longer when they settled in Florida. But we had many happy memories with visiting them there too. We have missed Roy these past few years and we're glad they're together now. Loving thoughts go out to you all.

We have such good memories of Miss Sue.
She had such a gentle demeanor and at family gatherings she was always present with a smile, and a good veggie dish and recipe to share. We are happy she is now resting peacefully with her beloved Roy.
Our condolences and prayers continue,
Chapman family. We love you.

We will greatly miss Aunt Sue and I'll always remember the great times we spent visiting her and Uncle Roy in Florida and the times she and Roy would visit dad and mom here in NC playing Rook around the kitchen table. God Bless the family,

Sue Chapman's life, from the perspective of her son, Ronnie Chapman:
Sue Chapman was born in her parents’ home on Old Grove Church Road between Buies Creek and Angier in Harnett County, North Carolina. She played basketball for four years in high school. She was married shortly after graduation, and became pregnant with her first and only child. She worked at the five and dime store after her husband left, where she worked until she was fired for being pregnant. Afterwards, she moved home with her parents, where she gave birth to her son, Ronnie. She began taking classes at Campbell College, where she completed one year of coursework before starting work at Fort Bragg as a secretary.
A few years later, she met a young serviceman, Roy Chapman, at the library, where she was getting books for her aunt. He asked her out on dates for months before she accepted. On their first date, Roy came to the house to pick her up and found Sue’s son and father eating molasses with biscuits after dinner. She threw a fit, complaining that they were too country, sopping up molasses with their biscuits. They were married in Dillon, South Carolina, on October 31, 1961. They then moved to Izmir, Turkey, for two years where Roy was stationed in the army and Sue was director of the teen club on the base.
Upon their return to the USA, they moved to Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Sue worked as a secretary at the base’s hospital, but made sure to never miss one of Ronnie’s many sports’ games. She was always giving and supportive, and only asked that her son attend college, which neither she nor Roy finished.
Once Ron entered college, Sue and Roy moved to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonia, Texas, after Roy’s return from two tours in Vietnam. Upon Roy’s retirement from the military, they moved to Dallas, Texas, where Sue began working for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Roy for Braniff Airlines. They took advantage of their new empty nest and began traveling the world together, visiting Hong Kong, Germany, Mexico, and multiple countries in South America. They also enjoyed traveling around Texas with their camper and boat.
In 1989, they moved to Clermont, Florida, to be close to their son Ronnie, daughter-in-law Debbie, and new grandchildren, Josh and Hannah. They were an instrumental part of raising their grandkids, spending time with them whenever possible. In 1994, they moved to Zellwood Station in Florida to be even closer to their family. They enjoyed their new community immensely, becoming active in many groups and a beloved part of the community. Sue particularly enjoyed playing bingo at the Clubhouse and attending exercise classes with her friends. After Roy’s death in 2013, Sue remained in Zellwood Station with her close friends, until she began to lose her vision. During the last year of her life, she lived with her family at their house in Umatilla, FL, until she passed on April 15, 2021.
