Patricia L. Baumann's Obituary
Patricia (Pat) Louise Baumann, 96, of Leesburg, Florida passed peacefully away on December 11, 2014. She was born July 7, 1918 in Mt. Vernon New York to Charles and Marie (Hambright) Dawson. Pat spent much of her childhood in Coral Gables, Florida. She and her husband, William H. Baumann moved to Leesburg from Barre Town, Vermont in 1980. While Pat referred to herself as a home maker, she was very active in community affairs. She became the driving force in starting a school hot lunch program in Alburgh, Vermont. Pat taught Sunday School and Bible School in Alburgh and South Burlington, Vermont. She was an active member of the Camp Fire Girls Council and was a Cub Scout den mother. Throughout her childrens' school years Pat was active in the PTA and served on the school board. She loved animals and oversaw a menagerie of horses, sheep, cattle, pigs, chickens, dogs and cats. She was proud to say that she and her family raised their own food. She raised and trained the Vermont State Police working Bloodhounds. While living in Bangkok, Thailand, Pat volunteered her time at local Thai hospitals. Upon moving to Florida, Pat was an active member of the local Coast Guard Auxiliary, serving as an inspector and treasurer. As she lost her sight, Pat became a key member of the Agency for the Blind in Florida, and worked tirelessly to assist others who were losing their sight. She was a loyal member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Eustis, Florida and a key participant in the church’s Blind Ministry Program. When time permitted, Pat loved to travel and enjoyed playing the organ. She was also a gifted handicrafts designer and fabricator who received much pleasure making many gifts for fund raising events, family and friends. Pat married William H. Baumann in 1939 and they enjoyed a married life together spanning 53 years. Together they raised four children: Patricia Randall of Groton, Vermont, William (Shirley) Baumann of Randolph, Vermont, Charles (Joan) Baumann of San Antonio, Texas and Gary(Janet) Baumann of Holtsville, New York. In addition to her children, Pat is survived by 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Pat was predeceased by her husband, Bill, and by her sisters: Adelaide, Constance and Gloria; their husbands and her son-in-law William Randall. She was also predeceased by a dear friend and partner, Mr. Gerald Jannereth.
A Memorial Service will be held on December 18th at 11:00 A.M.in the Faith Lutheran Church of Eustis, Florida. A luncheon will follow. A Commital Service will be held in the Vermont Memorial Veteran's Cemetery, Randolph Center, Vermont, in the late Spring of 2015.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Cornerstone Hospice or the Florida Agency for the Blind.
