James R. Calvin's Obituary
Jim Calvin, 68, passed away on April 30th, 2021. Jim grew up in Eustis with his parents, Bill and Dorothy Calvin. His love of the ocean began at an early age while accompanying his father on fishing trips out of the Daytona Beach area. At the age of 16, he became a certified diver. Shortly after graduating from Eustis High School, Jim joined the Navy, serving on the USS Spadefish (SSN-668) as a diver and torpedoman. Following stints as a commercial fisherman and college student, Jim began his career as a dive instructor in 1979. Eventually, he became the owner of Underwater Adventures, where he worked until his passing.
Jim’s passions included diving, fishing, photography, and loving numerous family dogs and cats. He was a kind and honorable man dedicated to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his wife Marcia, and siblings Susan Russell and Bill Calvin. Jim is predeceased by his parents, brother Butch Calvin, and sister Anne Merry.
A Celebration of Life will take place at his dive shop, Underwater Adventures, on Friday, May 7th. Friends may attend this casual reception anytime between 6-8 pm. at 400 West Magnolia Street in Leesburg. Bring your best “Jim” story and a joyful heart!
