Charles R. Barmore's Obituary
Dr. Charles Barmore, Research Fellow, Philanthropist
December 26, 1942 – August 10, 2020
Charles was the son of the late John and Jessie Mae Barmore of Groveland, FL.
He was the devoted and loving husband of Dianne, who survives him in Mt. Dora, FL. Other survivors include his brother and wife, Marvin and Cindy Barmore of Leesburg, FL, his sister and husband, Betty Lou and Bob Russell of Leesburg and three nephews: Mark and Andrea Russell, Randy Russell and Scott Russell.
Charles earned a bachelor’s degree at Clemson University and his Master’s and PhD at the University of Florida. He worked at the UF Citrus Research Center in Lake Alfred, FL before going with Cryovac, a food packaging company in Duncan, SC where he remained until his retirement in 2008. While there he built and managed a lab for the research and development of food packaging, developed techniques for the safe handling of food, gave worldwide seminars, published articles and received numerous awards and patents for food preservation.
Charles was a warm, kind, generous, caring and helpful friend and neighbor assisting them with designing their lawns, grafting, planting and the caring of plants, his love. He also loved the companionship of these neighbors as they boated and fished together on Lake Hartwell, SC.
His final act of philanthropy was donating his brain to a brain bank at the Medical University of SC for the research of Parkinson’s Disease. A research fund has been established at both the University of FL and the Medical University of SC. If you choose to donate in his memory, following are details on how to do that.
