Adele E. Hill's Obituary
Mrs. Adele E. Hill, of Deltona, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 30th, 2011 at her home with her family by her side.Adele Elaine Sturm was born in Buffalo New York on August 22nd, 1928 to parents, Howard and Ada. She worked as an accountant and credit manager for Whitehead Metals and sang opera professionally throughout the Buffalo area. Adele also had a passion for horseback riding and rode for Bertie Bay riding club.On May 8th of 1954 Adele married Harold Jean Hill and immediately fell in love with not just Harold but his two sons, David and Paul. The following May, Harold and Adele moved to Kingston, Jamaica where they would spend the next 45 years working with the Jamaica Christian Mission. Her work with Hilltop Prep School and Constant Spring Service Camp had a profound influence on hundreds of children many of whom still maintain a close and loving relationship with the woman they called "Mother", "Sister Hill" or "Aunt Adele".In December 1958 a son, Thomas James, was born and two years later a daughter, Jean Kimberly. Adele believed in the importance of living and raising her children with the culture of the country she called home.As Harold's health began to fail, Adele continued the work, travelling between the United States and Jamaica visiting churches to raise support with administrator, Winston Scott and Patriarch, Leslie Mitchell. After retiring Adele became involved with Cornerstone Christian Church in Deltona, Florida as Chairman of the Missions Committee continuing to raise support for the work in Jamaica as well as missions around the world. In the last years of Adele's life, she was able to enjoy travel and most importantly opening her home for guests and large parties. I believe the word "Hospitable" will be what people remember most of her.Even as Adele received the shocking news that she only had a few weeks to live she planned dinners and parties to be surrounded by friends and family. Her faith and beautiful outlook on death in the last days left all who came in contact with her knowing her Lord a little more intimately than they ever had.Always Loved and Never to be ForgottenAdele Elaine HillAugust 22nd, 1928 - April 30th, 2011 She is remembered by her daughter, Jeanie Weece of Deltona, FL; sons, David Hill of Land O' Lakes, FL, Paul Hill of Buffalo, NY, Thomas Hill of TN and Llewellyn Dawkins of Apopka, FL; grandchildren, David, Dawn, Nicholas, Shannon, Carry Anne, Heidi, Erik and TJ; as well as 14 great grandchildren including her beloved dog, Wonton Tanuki.Gathering with viewing was held on Saturday, May 7th from 12 noon until 2:00 pm with a funeral ceremony starting at 2:00 pm at Cornerstone Christian Church in Deltona.
