Zane Donald Overly's Obituary
Zane Donald Overly, age 89, passed away on February 8, 2026, at AdventHealth Hospital in DeLand, Florida. He was born on April 24, 1936, in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, to Ernest and Virginia Overly, both of whom preceded him in death.
Zane was a proud graduate of Hurst High School in Mount Pleasant, PA. He continued his education at Penn State University and West Virginia University, preparing for a lifelong career in education and service.
He dedicated decades to teaching industrial arts, beginning in Prince George’s County, Maryland (1957–1965), later in Frederick County, Maryland (1966–1971), and finally in Winchester, Virginia (1973–1990). In 1971, Zane also shared his skills abroad, teaching industrial arts in Saigon, Vietnam.
Beyond teaching, Zane devoted time to public service through his work with FEMA and Habitat for Humanity, continuing his commitment to helping others and building strong communities.
Zane is survived by his loving wife, Linia (Griffin) Overly, whom he married on May 26, 1967. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Andrea Overly Bishop and Amber Overly Handy.
He was preceded in death by his siblings—Robert D. Overly, Dorothy Jean Reisch, and Thomas Overly.
Zane leaves behind a cherished legacy through his grandchildren—Hannah, Nora, Lilly, Chrystalle, Dream, and Skylar—as well as six great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a service to follow. Zane will be laid to rest at a later date at Fairview Cemetery in Kecksburg, Pennsylvania.
Parking for Hamlin & Hilbish will be in the parking lot across the street next to Lake Eustis Christian Church. There will be cones, a sign, and possible police assistance with crossing. For those unable to walk or needing additional assistance there is parking in the back of the building with a ramp to assist getting into the building.
He will be fondly remembered for his gentle spirit, his service to others, and the legacy he leaves through the many lives he touched.
