William V. Huertas' Obituary
William V. Huertas of Mount Dora, Florida passed away on Sunday September 15, 2024, at the age of 90. He was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to parents Matias and Eladia Vega-Huertas. He married the love of his life Idalia Cuadrado on December 28, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York. They lived in their hometown of Trumbull, Connecticut for 43 years before moving to Florida.
In William’s early years he honorably served in the National Guard as a member of the Military Police. He worked as a machinist of precious metals at Handy & Harman of Fairfield, Connecticut for 44 years before retiring. In his retirement years, William was active in his church and knighted as a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. William was a current member of St. Mary of the Lakes Church in Eustis, Florida.
William enjoyed gardening, landscaping, DIY projects around the house, and playing dominoes with friends and grandchildren. An animal lover, you could always find him by the lake feeding his adopted pets of wild birds, ducks and cranes.
William’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family. William is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Idalia Huertas; his children, William Huertas Jr., (wife Erica Marklew) and Wendy Mauro (husband Gene Mauro Jr.); his six grandchildren Lisa Mauro, Brandon Mauro, Devin Mauro, Veronica Mauro, Jolie Huertas, and Cameron Huertas; and siblings Lucas Huertas, and Amelia Huertas-Del Valle. He is predeceased by his brothers; Jesus, Aureo, Luis, and Wilfredo.
Services for family and friends will be held on Monday September 23, 2024 with a viewing at 10 AM and service at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Lakes Church in Eustis, Florida. Following the service there will be a processional to the burial site for the committal service at Greenwood Cemetery in Eustis, Florida.
