William D. "Bill" Clendinnen's Obituary
William D. “Bill” Clendinnen of Grand Island, Florida passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the age of 79 years. He was born in Patchogue, Long Island, New York. Bill spent winters in Grand Island from Long Island for 9 years before he and his wife, Betty, decided to relocate permanently in July 2015. Bill and Betty were married 52 years ago. Along with the birth of his children, he considered those days the most important of his life. He retired from Dayton T. Brown Test Laboratory after 44 years of service. Bill was very proud to have worked on the LEM (Lunar Excursion Module), to allow a man to land on the moon in 1969. He loved restoring antique cars and owned many during his lifetime. He enjoyed woodworking. Bill loved the solace of the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed camping and hiking. He loved to walk his dogs or take the golf cart down to the lake and enjoy the peacefulness of the water. Bill was a member of Sunlake Christian Fellowship. He was also a long time member of Bayport United Methodist Church in Bayport, Long Island for 44 years. Bill is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife, Betty; son, John Clendinnen and his wife, Kyoko of Hiroshima, Japan; daughters, Carol Clendinnen of Coconut Creek, Florida and Susan Clendinnen of East Patchogue, New York; sister, Karen Vanderwal and her husband, Terrence of Sarasota, Florida; sister-in-law, Nancy Emerson of Brewster, Massachusetts and three loving grandchildren, Josiah, Micah and Andrew. Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing on Tuesday, January 12 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm with a funeral ceremony starting at 2:00 pm, all in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778; www.cshospice.org/foundation/giving/ Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
