Walter Check's Obituary
Walter Charles Check peacefully transitioned with his wife at his side on January 12, 2026 at Cornerstone Hospice House in Tavares, Florida. He was born in New York City on February 3, 1935 and was the sixth of seven children to parents Joseph Check and Jayne Check (Montgomery). After graduating high school, Walter served four years in the United States Air Force and married while stationed in England. He returned to the United States and fathered four children: Steven, Scott, Rosemarie, and James. Walter had a longstanding career in electronics as a Manufacturing Manager and as an Operations Manager for a building manufacturer. He divorced in 1982, married Donna Check (Naegeli) in 1985, and they moved to Central Florida in 1989. Walter loved and thoroughly enjoyed time with friends Paul and Arlene, with his fur babies, music, concerts, the ballet, and going to the beach. Later, his interests included time with friends Patty and Mark, Vi and her family, his fur babies, golf, fishing, going to the beach, watching football and various series, and he was most proud of his parachuting jumps in the 1980’s. Walter is survived by his wife, Donna; his son James Check and daughter-in-law Jeanne Check; daughter-in-law Linda Check (son Steven pre-deceased Walter); son Scott Check (estranged); several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Walter’s wishes are being followed as he did not want a service, a viewing, or a memorial. A private gathering will be held on January 31, 2026.
