Virginia S. Mahn's Obituary
Virginia S. Mahn (Ginny) of Mount Dora (Glen Ellyn, IL) passed away on July 16th at the age of 99. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday August 15. Ginny moved to Mount Dora with her late husband Dr. John Mahn after living in Glen Ellyn for 27 years, where she worked as an agent for Evans Real Estate. She was also very active in affairs at St. Mark s Episcopal Church (Glen Ellyn), where she served as Head of the Alter Guild, was a member of the Vestry Women and sang in the choir. Upon leaving the parish, St. Mark s established a fund for church music in the honor of Ginny and her husband. She devoted a great deal of time to lecturing on the subject of The Holy Spirit in our daily lives and was an Oblate of the Order of St. Benedict (Orthodoxy). She and her late husband were founding members of St. Andrew s Antiochian Orthodox Church in Eustis, FL. where she remained active for many years. At the age of 16, Ginny was selected as Miss Milwaukee (Wis.) and was runner-up in the 1925 Miss America Pageant. Two years later she was named Miss South Bend (IN), which is where she met and later married her husband. Ginny is survived in life by her two children J. Dennison (Helen) and Marcia (James), three grandchildren; Peter (Diana), Gregory (Pam) and Mark (Angela), three great grandchildren; Joshua, Andrew and Ashley, one great-great grandchild; Matthew, her brother Stuart, as well as many nieces and nephews. Her Daughter Marcia Louise Weaver (James) remembers her mother as; having a sociable nature and was always ready to throw a party . She added; Mother was known by many as the Prayer Warrior . Her son J. Dennison (Helen) stated; Mom had the ability to really listen to you in a conversation, she really cared about what you had to say . Memory eternal, memory eternal, memory eternal. Friends may call at St. Andrew the Apostle Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2815 South Bay Street, Eustis from Four until Six PM Tuesday July 21. The funeral was celebrated in the church on Wednesday July 22 at Eleven O'clock AM with Fr. Michael Keiser officiating.
