Virginia E. "Ginny" Broadway's Obituary
Virginia E. “Ginny” Broadway, 89, of Eustis passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Ginny was born in Laurens, South Carolina. She graduated from Rollins College in 1950 and was a member of the Bach choir. She later obtained her master’s degree in education from Rollins in 1976. After a brief time in Fairbanks, Alaska, Ginny returned to Florida to begin her teaching career in Lake County. Her 35-year career in education began at Tavares Elementary. She also taught at Eustis Elementary, Eustis Heights Elementary, and Eustis Middle School. Most of her years were spent teaching fifth grade, but she also held positions as the coordinator of the Lake Migrant Education Program, Assistant Principal at Roseborough Elementary, and lastly as Dean at Eustis Heights Elementary. Ginny was a member and Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Eustis. She especially enjoyed her involvement in the Eustis Service League and was instrumental in the production of the league’s cookbooks for which she researched and wrote the history of Eustis as a forward to each. Ginny loved reading, classical and Broadway music, camping, being at the beach and especially, being with her family. She was highly respected by her colleagues and touched many young lives on her life’s journey. Ginny was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Charley in 2009. She is survived by her sons: Charles E. “Chuck” Broadway of Eustis and his wife Brenna and James M. "Jim" Broadway and his wife Sherry of Roswell, Georgia, her sister; Margaret "Midge" Woodbury of Orlando, her grandchildren; Amanda Broadway Parsel, Jake Broadway, Matt Broadway, Casey Broadway, Jim Broadway Jr., Steven Broadway and Samuel Broadway and her great grandchildren; Wyatt Parsel, Scarlett Broadway, Aubrey Broadway and Ella Parsel. Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Eustis at 3 PM on Sunday, March 12, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
