Rosalie Nieft Castleberry's Obituary
Rosalie Nieft Castleberry was born, July 18, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, and was the daughter of Edward and Louise (Pundt) Nieft. She attended North Park Junior College and the University of Missouri and received a M.A. in Journalism; she was also a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. While at the University of Missouri, Roz met her husband, Jesse Wendell Castleberry while he was stationed there in U.S. Army Air Force flight training across the street from her sorority house. They were married in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, June 5, 1946. Roz taught journalism at the University of Alabama. While Jess attended Northwestern Medical School, Roz worked as a journalist. They lived in Orlando during Jess's medical internship, New Orleans during Jess's surgical residency training, and then moved permanently to the Orlando area. Roz loved traveling to new places, and traveling with Jess all over the United States including Alaska, and to Germany, Russia, England and Costa Rica. Each time Roz wrote wonderful travel journals for her family and friends. Survived by her beloved husband Jess, children Carol Castleberry and husband Todd Peterson; Brett Castleberry and wife Ronda; Amy Castleberry Shamrock and husband Steve; Jim Castleberry and wife Kari; and grandchildren Kayde and Savannah Shamrock; Jesse, Sam and David Castleberry; Sarah and Stephanie Anderson; Bryanna Peterson and sister Marie Nieft Deemer. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to her favorite charity the Humane Society of the United States. A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, March 31st at 3 PM in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel.
