Ronald James "Ron" Hartz's Obituary
Ronald J. “Ron” Hartz was a family man – a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. The 71-year-old of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away April 19, 2016, after a short battle with cancer
with that family by his side.
Ron and his wife Esther enjoyed amazing adventures together to many parts of the world. One
of his favorite destinations was paradise in the Cayman Islands. In addition to travel, Ron
enjoyed reading and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
Ron, born in Bureau Township, Illinois, to the late Dale and Lois (Meikle) Hartz, moved to Mount Dora from Sterling, Illinois, in 2012. He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Ron was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora and owned Schuneman Insurance Agency of Sterling for 27 years.
Volunteering was an important part of life for Ron. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Lake County Golden Triangle, was on the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army in Sterling, on the Board of Lake County Connections and the Board of New Visions for Independence of Lake County. Family and friends fondly remember Ron for his sense of humor, great wit and practical jokes. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his loving wife Esther. They were married for 48 years. Also surviving are his children Lisa Hartz of Sterling and Tad (Barb) Hartz of Prattville, Alabama; his grandson Ron Hartz II of Prattville; siblings Lela Kraber and Jerry (Linda) Hartz both of Dixon, Illinois, and Nancy Hartz of Amboy, Illinois.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on May 21st from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling.
