Robert H. O'Brien's Obituary
Mr. Robert H. "Bob' O'Brien, of Mount Dora, passed away on Monday, December 7th, 2009 at the age of 78 years. Bob was born in Avella, PA to Theodore R. and Marguerite (Waters) O'Brien. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired after more than 21 years of service to his country. He went on to work for the Board of Education in New York State and taught in the public schools and at Dowling College. He moved to Mount Dora in 1992 after his marriage to Lorraine. Bob was an avid bowler at Triangle Lanes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 25 years and was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mount Dora. He was also a former Eucharistic Minister and ran the video at the church for many years. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Lorraine R. O'Brien; children, John & Anthony O'Brien and Porzia Purves; step-children, Robert, Scott, Kevin, Valerie & Laura Karles; sisters, Betty Riser and Barbara Mankey; as well as 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Norma Welch, Delores Johnson and Georgetta Keil and brother, Richard O'Brien. The family gathered with friends on Sunday, December 13th,2009 at the funeral home for viewing. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, December 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mount Dora. Burial followed at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
