Quentin "Bud" Shank's Obituary
A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Quentin “Bud” Shank, 94, of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away peacefully at Waterman Village, May 9, 2013. He was born September 9, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio. Bud, wife Naomi, and son Steve moved to Lighthouse Point, Florida December, 1970 where he was vice president of United Federal Savings and Loan in Ft. Lauderdale. After retiring in 1979, Bud and Naomi later moved to Mount Dora in 1996.
Bud served our country in the South Pacific during WWII as a Radioman in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. After the military, he was in the banking industry for 30 years in Ohio and Florida.
Music was a big part of Bud’s life. He thoroughly enjoyed listening to music, primarily Christian and gospel, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, and anything to do with the banjo. Bud was proficient on the banjo and organ and loved nothing more than playing his harmonica for fellow residents and staff at Waterman Cove and Village. Bud had a quirky sense of humor, a quick smile, enjoyed making others laugh and would spend hours writing poetry, some funny, some very moving and touching. He loved fishing, boating and attending baseball, football, and basketball games, and was an avid wood carver. But his true passion was his family. Nothing made him happier than being with and talking about his family. He was the role model we all aspire to be. “Lead by example” was the way he lived life. Whenever asked where his favorite place to be was, he always replied, “Anywhere, as long as Naomi was there with me.”
Bud was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Naomi; and his sisters Phyllis and Margaret; and grandson Robbie Morgan. He is survived by sons Terrence Shank of South Africa and Steve (Debbie) Shank of Mount Dora; step sons Doug Morgan of Playa del Carmen, Mexico and Gary (Cris) Morgan of Key West; grandchildren Todd Morgan of Dayton, Ohio, Kelli Swisher of Dayton, Ohio, and Michele Morgan of Ft. Lauderdale, and five great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, in theHamlin and Hilbish Chapel, 326 Orange Avenue, Eustis, Florida. Entombment will follow at the Boca Raton Mausoleum in Boca Raton, Florida.
OUR FRIENDS
God grants us many things
In many different ways
Our daily walk with him
The blessed and countless days
He answers all our prayers
So many things he sends
The blessings we receive
Lord, thank you for our friends
They give their help, their heartfelt love
For us their prayers they send
And yes, God answers from above
On them we can depend
Bud Shank, 1997
