"Peggy" Margaret C Hooper's Obituary
“Peggy” Margaret C Hooper was born and raised in Greenville, SC, to her parents, S. Eugene Colvin, and Margaret B. Colvin. During her high school years, Peggy’s family relocated to Decatur, Georgia, where she then met her husband Holland. The young couple moved to Miami, Florida to begin their life and start their own family.
In the late 1950’s, Peggy decided to join the corporate world, while raising her family. She then joined Junior Womens league of Miami. This organization gave her the impact she needed to help advance her skills throughout her career. She found balance in her family's love of sports, from tee ball to tennis, and even softball, she loved being able to stay physical in her passions. During her lifetime she individually or with partners, had five different businesses; an interior decorating company, an award-winning tearoom, a furniture consignment store, a children’s consignment shop, and a philanthropy consulting company. All these businesses helped her to continue to grow her education and relationships she has with her colleagues and community.
After years of working in the corporate world, at 50 she attended the University of Miami master's program in business and health administration. She became a stockbroker for a large firm in the United States. Through her volunteer work in the philanthropic world at the American Cancer Society, she was awarded the Order of the Red Sword honoring her extensive volunteerism work. Then progressing that into a career as Director of Estate Planning for the South Florida area at ACS. Peggy was known for being the pinnacle of southern charm and hospitality; she lit up the room and made a legacy. She was known for her “leave behinds” of banana bread to her clients, leaving behind a positive and loving impact throughout her philanthropic work. Through her long and varied careers, she developed lifetime friends, gained respect from her coworkers, and instilled practices and values that are still followed today.
She is predeceased by her parents S Eugene Colvin, and Margaret B. Colvin, and brother Samuel Colvin.
She is survived by her brother George H. (Ginger) Colvin; three children, Meg Hooper, Kathy (Keith) Kramer, Milan (Chloe) Hooper; and she is Mimi to her grandchildren, Merrilyn (Patrick), Michelle, Ramona; and her great-grandchildren, Wyatt, and Finn.
Peggy’s driving factor in life has always been her family. After having lived in South Florida for over 50 years, she moved to Central Florida recently, to be close to family. She grew in her love of nature as it was right out her back window, enjoying the wildlife and gardens. She had an immense love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing life experiences that they can carry with them throughout their lives.
