Paul Rex Huntzinger's Obituary
Paul Rex Huntzinger, of Clermont, Florida, passed away on June 14, 2022, at the age of 83 after contracting the Covid-19 virus, which hastened his passing.
Paul was born in Anderson, Indiana, and was the tenth of eleven children. In his youth, he moved with his parents and some of his siblings to Ft. Myers, Florida. After graduating from Ft. Myers High School, Paul found his way to the United States Air Force, where he served as a military policeman. During his time in the service he had the opportunity to see the world, as he was stationed at several bases overseas.
After leaving the Air Force, he returned to Florida, this time to the east coast, where he began working at Pantry Pride, a grocery store chain. It was also during this time that he met the love of his life on a blind date. Paul was the manager of several Pantry Pride stores, including one in Mt. Dora, Florida, where he lived with his wife and children for many years. In the early 1980’s Paul decided to become his own boss, and started a house-painting business. He worked as a painter for many years, and often had repeat customers due to his hard work ethic, which he also instilled in his children. Paul retired from painting in his seventies, and after the passing of his wife, he moved to Clermont, Florida to live next door to his daughter.
Paul is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jean Huntzinger, and by one brother (Earl) and his seven sisters (Maxine, Betty, LaVon, Evelyn, Mary Belle, Mary Lou, and Alta Mae). He is survived by his children Stacy Huntzinger (Fred Tamburo) and Kevin Huntzinger (Lynn), two brothers, Larry Huntzinger (Nancy) and Dean Huntzinger (Charlotte), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our beloved father, Paul, never met a stranger. His calm and easy-going temperament set a wonderful example for us. He found happiness in the simple things, and enjoyed taking care of his yard, reading about history, bird-watching, and spending time with family. Even as dementia clouded his mind, he still greeted you with a friendly “Hey there!”
