Marval L. Cazer's Obituary
Marval Cazer, 93, of Altoona, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Marval was born in Iowa but the family moved to Deland so that he and his brother could go to college there. Growing up in Deland he became an Eagle Scout and went to the Chicago Worlds Fair as part of the Florida Scout Delegation. After high school, he spent one year in a military school in Georgia, then transferred to Stetson University where he earned his baccalaureate, a law degree, and Juris Doctor. During WWII he served in Europe with various infantry units, remaining in the Army reserve following active duty, altogether 28 years, retiring in 1970 as a LT. Colonel. During this time he attended international conventions as a Reserve NATO officer. At the time of his retirement from the military he was Director of Administration for the Baltimore Army Terminal Unit, which was trained to operate the Port of Baltimore, utilizing such equipment as sea-going tugboats, barges, roll-on/roll-off freighters, fireboats, etc. Troops assigned to Korea and, later, Vietnam, were processed through the Terminal. He was a graduate of the Army Transportation School and attended the Command and General Staff Military College. His civilian career was with the Social Security Administration, working in several Florida offices before transfer to National SSA Headquarters in Baltimore where he served on the Policy and Legal Staff.Mr. Cazer was predeceased by his beloved wife Wyona in June of this year.He is survived by his children, James (Theresa) L. Cazer of Warsaw, Virginia and Nancy (John) Grace of Baltimore, Maryland; his grandchildren, Erin M. Gilliand of Severna Park, Maryland, Kevin D. Grace of Westchester, Ohio and Matthew B. Grace of Aurora, Colorado; his great grandchildren, Tyler, Kendall, Noah, Cai, Seth, Neila and Reagan.A Memorial Service was held Saturday, August 13, 2011 on the Sun Porch of the Healthcare Center at Lakeview Terrace Retirement Center in Altoona. Pastor John Grace officiated. Final resting place is in Lakeside Memory Gardens in Eustis.
