Marta M. Horvath's Obituary
Marta M. Horvath 85, of Eustis, passed away on February 10th. Marta was born in Vajdacska, Hungary. Marta and her parents, Bela Nyika and Maria Szabo Nyika, immigrated to Canada, then to the USA and settled in the Detroit, Michigan area. Marta’s mother and father had been held in the concentration camps in Auschwitz before coming to the USA. Marta received her Bachelor degree from the University of Michigan. She was married for a short time to Tibor Horvath, and they lived in the Dominican Republic before his life was cut short in an accident. They had no children and Marta never remarried. She continued her music studies in Milan, Italy, under the direction of famous members of “La Scala”. She traveled extensively throughout Europe as a Soprano, receiving exquisite praise from the public and the press both here and overseas. She sang opera in seven languages; Italian, German, Hungarian, Spanish, French, Hebrew and English.
She lived and performed in New York City for several years before moving to Winter Springs, Florida to care for her ailing father, who predeceased her in 1983. Marta’s father was a Byzantine Catholic Priest in Michigan and St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic church in Orlando. Marta worked several years for Orange County Schools in the Adult Education Department as an instructor of music (piano and voice). She provided music therapy and entertainment for twenty or more different groups weekly for seven years. Marta taught music privately and accepted engagements for receptions, weddings and other entertainments. She became a Realtor in the Winter Springs area. Marta took care of her mother, who predeceased her in 1998. Marta’s brother who lived in Australia passed away in 2010.
Marta worked in Administration at Walt Disney World and later taught yoga there as well until 2006. She taught five languages, yoga, voice and piano lessons to many individuals and groups in Orlando, Winter Park, and Mount Dora from the early 1980’s until 2007. Marta was a volunteer and at Florida Hospital Celebration Health.
There will be a visitation in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel Wednesday from 4 until 6 PM. Services will be held in St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis on Thursday, February 14th at 9:30 AM. Interment will be in Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
