Maria E. Phillips' Obituary
Maria E. Phillips, 68, of Sorrento, Florida passed away unexpectedly at AdventHealth Waterman on September 16, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Denise R. Mulcahy.
Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Lewis J. Phillips and Emma (Aiello) Phillips. Maria received her Associates Degree from Bryant University in 1972, her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1982, and her Masters of Business Administration from Bryant University in 1985.
She also received her certification as a Certified Manufacturing Accountant (CMA) in 2002. She had various positions in accounting throughout her career, most notably: Director, FP&A (Financial planning and Analysis) for Finlay’s Extracts and Ingredients, USA (formerly Autocrat LLC) in Lincoln, RI from 1995 until her retirement in 2018.
Before moving to Georgia in 2018, and Florida in 2020 to be closer to her grandchildren, Maria was a communicant of St Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church in Pawtucket, RI.
She enjoyed volunteering at Options magazine in Providence, RI.
She was an avid gardener and received her Master Gardener Certification from the University Of Rhode Island in 2017. She was also certified as a Master Gardener in Tennessee, and recently in the state of Florida.
Possessed with an adventurous spirit, she enjoyed travelling with her wife to “bucket-list” destinations like Alaska, Hawaii, Italy France, the Northern Lights and recently, Yellowstone National Park.
Beside her wife she is survived by her son Gregory Rathbun of Oviedo, FL, his wife Audrey, and her grandsons Lincoln and Thomas, who gave her so much joy. She is also survived by her sisters Anne Phillips of N. Kingstown, RI, Teresa Reynolds of Bristol, RI, and her nephew, James Reynolds of Bristol, RI.
In lieu of flowers contribution can be made to the American Heart Association.
Services will be held in Rhode Island at a later date. More info will be added once it is confirmed.
