Margarette Ellen Mock's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Margarette Ellen Starnes Mock, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida. Born Oct. 4, 1928, in Eustis, FL, Mrs. Mock was a third-generation Lake County native. After graduating from Eustis High in 1947, she attended Stetson University in Deland, Florida and Edward Jones Business College in Jacksonville. In August 1949, she married Benjamin Franklin Mock of Bainbridge, Ga., and together they had three children. Although Frank’s work with the U.S. Air Force took the family to bases throughout the United States, the family returned to Eustis in 1964. Margarette resided in Eustis until 1998, when she relocated to Jacksonville to be closer to her family. Mrs. Mock will be remembered as an avid reader and quilter who loved shopping, history, romance and mystery novels, big band music, camels, Willie Nelson, the color yellow, and all things Coca-Cola. Her family will greatly miss her gentle sense of humor and effortless sense of style, as well as her deep devotion to and love for her family.
Mrs. Mock is preceded in death by her father Richard C. Starnes, mother Vela Sheppard Starnes Barfield, and stepfather Berry Barfield; husband Frank Mock, aunt and uncle Jo and Frank Boylin, as well as daughter-in-law Marie Bisignano Mock and son-in-law Hudson Buzbee. She is survived by her son David Benjamin Mock (Ann) of Tallahassee, daughters Melanie Mock Buzbee and Janet Mock Stanard (Wes), both of Jacksonville; cousins Carolyn Boylin Parsons (Ernie) and Byron Howell (Shannon) of Tampa; grandchildren Sonia Fancher (Darren) of Tallahassee; Paul Crocker (Jennifer) of Dallas, TX; Kimberly Mock Nielson (Tim) of Marietta, GA; Scott Mock (Rachel) of Tallahassee; Haley Buzbee Shoor (Gilad) of Tenafly, NJ; and Lauren Buzbee Swanson (Aaron) of Jacksonville, FL; great-grandchildren Nathaniel Mock; Elizabeth and Luke Fancher; Maxwell and Josephine Nielson; Natalie, Daniel, and Ella Shoor; and Claire and Zoey Swanson.
Mrs. Mock will be interred at Lakeside Memory Gardens on Friday, Sept. 25. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mrs. Mock's graveside service will be reserved for close family members only. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mrs. Mock’s memory be made to veterans organizations such as the USO or Vietnam Veterans of America, or animal rescue groups such as the American Humane Society.
