Kinney S. Harley's Obituary
Kinney S. Harley died on October 21, 2017 at home in Mt Plymouth, Florida. Born in 1927, Kinney served in the U S Navy during WWII. After service he returned to Chattanooga where he went into the building business after a short stint in local radio. He moved to Florida in 1968 as the Executive Director of Florida Home Builders Association. Under his leadership FHBA became the pre-eminent voice of the residential construction industry before the Florida Legislature. Always active in Tallahassee civic activities Kinney was a member of the 20th Century Krewe and the Andrew Jackson staff of Springtime Tallahassee. An avid boater and fisherman, Kinney was a founding member of the St Marks Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; his son, Kinney S. Harley, Jr. of West Palm Beach; his daughters, Wendy Harley of Crawfordville and Sue Ann Smith of Birmingham; his stepson Erik Lazier of Mt Plymouth; and 5 grandchildren. He will be missed. A celebration of Kinney's life will be held at the family home at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Hospice (cshospice.org).
