Joseph John Wentworth Jr.'s Obituary
Joseph John Wentworth Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on April 5 at the age of 77. He was born in Rochester, New Hampshire, and raised in Somersworth, where he spent much of his early life.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Helen Marie Bouchard Wentworth, whom he married on January 16, 1971, in Somersworth, New Hampshire.
Joe lived in New Hampshire for most of his life before moving his family to Virginia in 1986, and later to North Carolina in 1998. In 2014, he and Helen began spending their time as snowbirds between North Carolina and Florida, eventually making Florida their permanent home in 2021.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. A disabled veteran, he remained committed to service throughout his life and was a member of the American Heart Association, where he served as Treasurer.
He enjoyed a long and successful career in banking, retiring from Wells Fargo as a Vice President. Outside of his career, he found joy in gardening, bowling, and watching golf. A New Hampshire native at heart, he was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Gladys Wentworth; his sisters, Suzan St. Laurent and Barbara Wentworth; and his brother, Thomas Wentworth.
He is survived by his children: Jeremy Wentworth, whose wife, Jennie, preceded him in death; his daughter, Shelby Calhoun (Connor), and their children, Kensleigh, Spencer, and Maddie; Jennifer Spencer (David) and their sons, Burke and Brady; Amy-Marie Rossin (Noah) and their children, Olivia and Liam; and Joshua Wentworth and his children, Kyle and Lydia, whose mother, Amanda, preceded him in death.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Michael Bouchard; sister-in-law, Denise Hackett; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
