Joseph F. Schwartz's Obituary
Joseph F. Schwartz of Altoona, FL, passed away peacefully in his home on March 5, 2026 at the age of 89. Originally from Etna Borough in Pittsburgh, PA. Beloved husband of Shirley Ann Schwartz (Daniels) for over 66 years. Dedicated father to Eric (Celeste) Schwartz of Farmington Hills, MI, and Darren (Christine) Schwartz of Royal Oak, MI. Proud grandfather of Christopher, Alexandra, Kevin, Ava, and Gavin. Brother-in-law to Carl Dell (husband of the late Evelyn Dell) of Mentor, OH, and Rose Daniels (wife of the late Alexander Daniels) of Etna, PA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents John, Sr. and Caroline Schwartz-Jaronski, and his siblings Veronica (Vincent) Golobic, Anna (Zigmund) Kuznar, Dolores (Walter) Holderny, John (Dorothy) Schwartz Jr., William Schwartz, Caroline (Stephen) Karlik, Frances (John) Rodgers, Diana (William) Steinman, and Evelyn (survived by husband Carl) Dell.
Dad was a star football player at Etna High School, served in the US Army as an MP in the 82nd Airborne Division, and later worked as a warehouse manager. He could frequently be found doing skilled masonry work or other large home renovation projects - even when he visited his sons. He was known as "Minnow" to his family and friends and was happiest in the water, on a beach or floating in a pool.
A private celebration of life with close family and friends is to be held at Lakeview Terrace on March 12.
