John Charles Potteiger's Obituary
John Charles Potteiger, a proud Navy Veteran and beloved family man, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Mount Dora, Florida, at the age of 77.
Son of Paul and Erma Potteiger, he was born on Saturday, October 13, 1945, in Reading, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Muhlenberg High School and joined the Navy, where he served as a Torpedoman on the USS Threadfin. After his time in the Navy, he became a computer operator and eventually an IT Manager for the Bollman Hat Company in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
In 2007, he and his beloved wife, Nancy took a leap of faith and left behind colder winters in the Northeast to enjoy the promise of warmer-sunny days in beautiful Lake County, Florida.
At their new home, John and Nancy became members at Bay Street Baptist Church, took up golfing, enjoyed playing five-crown cards, and volunteered in the soup kitchen. They were also blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Bailey Potteiger who reside just ‘up the road’ in Gainesville, FL.
John was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul and Erma Potteiger, his sister Linda Moyer, and his sister-in-law Louise Potteiger.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; her two children, Tim Wiley and Kimberly Wiley-Schappell; his two children, Michael and Lisa Potteiger; his brother Larry Potteiger, and his brother-in-law Robert Moyer.
John was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, pop-pop and friend. He was known for his great sense of humor, his refined art of ‘being early’, his passion for the Philadelphia Eagles, as well as his unwavering love and devotion to his wife, Nancy. Countless fond memories of John will live on in our hearts forever.
