John F. Peterson's Obituary
John Florian Peterson, born Florian John Michalski, passed away April 21, in Bradenton, Florida. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of 13 was adopted by his stepfather with the Peterson name. John was married to his first wife Eulalie (Betty) from 1951-1976. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1957, being Honorably Discharged in December 1957. He then served in the U.S. Navy Reserve through March 1969. He graduated from college with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for 31 years with Siemens Stromberg-Carlson and General Dynamics. Some of his contributions to U.S. Air Force satellites included the OV1-13 and OV1-14. Both launched in 1968.
John was married to his wife Theresa Anne Peterson for over 48 years. They resided in Mt. Dora for most of that time. Together they enjoyed retirement, traveling and working on hobbies. John, also known as Jack, enjoyed restoring vintage Corvair cars. He was a faithful donor to the Central Florida Blood Bank and received an Award of Merit for 53 Gallons of donated blood. He enjoyed family get-together's and especially his great grandchildren. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Mt. Dora, Florida.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Anne Peterson, brother Thomas Peterson. He survived by his brother Daniel Peterson, son Craig (Barb) Peterson, daughter Leslie Peterson, step-daughter Sandra Riley (Jett Riley-deceased), step-daughter Linda (Randy) Chapman, 11 grandchildren who affectionately called him "Grandpa Jack", 16 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 3, 2025 at 12 PM at Hamlin Hilbish Funeral Home, followed by a graveside inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery, 220 Haselton Street, Eustis, Florida.
Parking for Hamlin & Hilbish will be in the parking lot across the street next to Lake Eustis Christian Church. There will be cones, a sign, and possible police assistance with crossing. For those unable to walk or needing additional assistance there is parking in the back of the building.
