Joan Marie Dayton (Tucker)'s Obituary
Joan Marie Dayton (Tucker), age 81, of Eustis, Florida, passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 28, 2026.
Born on February 8, 1945, in Glens Falls, New York, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late Raymond L. Tucker and June C. Tucker (Madaris). She spent her childhood in Glens Falls and graduated from Queensbury High School in 1963. Following graduation, she attended beauty school and began her career as a hairstylist.
As an adult, Joan spent most of her life in Melbourne, Florida, where she worked for Southern Bell, Harris Corporation, and Florida Institute of Technology as a member of the security team. She also devoted several years to caring for others as an in-home healthcare provider for the elderly.
Joan found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved cooking, sewing, reading, and writing, and was a published poet whose words reflected her thoughtful and creative spirit. She especially cherished hosting family gatherings and celebrating holidays with loved ones, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John “Jack” Walter Dayton Sr., a Vietnam War Veteran, who passed away on March 29, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Raymond J. Tucker; her sister, Kathleen “Kitty” J. Bishop-Truax; and her dear friends, Beverly and Cameron Cash.
She is survived by her son, John W. Dayton Jr.; her daughters, Lisa K. Melchiorre-Hawkins (Tucker), Michele “Mikki” K. Alfonso-Mullennix, and Aimee L. Slater-Deavers (Dayton); her sister, Sherri L. Bynum (Tucker); as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends whose lives she touched throughout the years.
Joan will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, creativity, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her warmth, wisdom, and welcoming spirit will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home, 326 E. Orange Avenue, Eustis, Florida. A Celebration of Life will be announced and held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to honor Joan's memory by spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, and celebrating the traditions she held dear.
