To say I was shocked to come into work today and learn that Jerry had passed away would be a gross understatement. There was an overwhelming sadness at the passing of someone who seemed so robust and healthy and, like his obituary described, "larger than life". Jerry has been a regular staple in our practice as the courier for Waterman Hospital, picking up samples for the lab, but he was much more than this. Unfailingly pleasant and always happy to spend a few minutes chatting with us or our staff, he regaled us with stories of his other interests and activities, of which there were many. It is safe to say that his role as a courier was perhaps the least of his identities. I always thought it was a job of convenience, allowing him time for his many other pursuits. Now, I think he loved the work because it gave him the opportunity to interact with so many people on a given day, and he was clearly a "people person." He will be sorely missed. At this difficult time my prayer will be that all of his family and friends will be comforted by wonderful memories and shared experiences, and that God's presence will be felt by all as you adjust to moving forward without him. Blessings.
