Jeanne Choate Ferran Harrison's Obituary
Jeanne Choate Ferran Harrison, November 5, 1916 – December 13, 2014. She was 98 and the last of the Choate Sisters and the last of her generation of the Ferran family. She was the daughter of Edward Choate and Anna Wilson Choate of Baltimore and Eustis; wife of C. Harold Ferran of Eustis who passed away in 1957; the daughter-in-law of Dr. Clarence and Bess Ferran of Orlando where he was the former Pastor of the Park Lake Presbyterian church. Jeanne was also married briefly to Paul Cox of Daytona Beach and the wife of Judge Dunbar Harrison of Savannah, Georgia for 24 years.
Jeanne is deeply loved and survived by her three children; Janet C. Ferran of Osterville, Massachusetts, William Ferran of Jacksonville and Ed (Nancy) Ferran of Longview, Washington. Her grandchildren are Jack (Kim) Kayajan, Kathryn Kayajan (Kevin Kelly), Michael (Deana) Kayajan, Laura and Matt Ferran. Jeanne’s great grandchildren are; Jake, Claire and Mary Flynn Kayajan. As a step-mother to Dunny Harrison Jr. and Mary Bell Harrison Stoltz she enjoyed her life with Judge Harrison and many grandchildren and great grandchildren in Savannah, Atlanta and Highlands, North Carolina.
Jeanne was Miss Eustis in 1937, she taught 1st grade in Sanford and was married in Eustis at the First Presbyterian Church to C. Harold Ferran. Both contributed to the music and served steadfastly for many years.
Jeanne was a wonderful cook, entertainer, loving wife and mother. Her favorite sport was golf. She and Harold were Charter Members of Pine Meadows Golf and Country Club of Eustis; She was the Women’s Club Champion of both the Savannah Golf Club and the Wildcat Cliffs Country Club in Highlands, North Carolina and a member of the National Senior Women’s Golf Association with an 8 handicap. She learned to ski at 50 and proved her competency in the Alps. A lifetime of hiking led her to her biggest accomplishment of all – the Milford Track in New Zealand at the age of 65.
Besides her beauty and athleticism she was an accomplished musician, she provided her family and friends with a traditional combination of religious and social joy, an unforgettable smile and everyday grace.
We will miss her presence and appreciate her passing with peace.
Memorials are requested to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778 or Alzheimer Resource Center, 1506 Lake Highland Drive, Orlando, FL 32803. Graveside services will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis on Thursday at 2 PM. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
