Jean Swain's Obituary
Jean Swain of Gainesville, formerly of Leesburg, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at the age of 94 years. Jean was born in Saugus, Massachusetts to the late, Harold and Doris Wilkinson. Jean grew up in a loving home and enjoyed many friends. She met Thomas Swain (Tommy) in grade school who later left Saugus to serve in WWII. Jean and Tommy married in 1949 and went on to have four boys. They provided a loving home to their children and always spent family vacations in Maine. She and Tommy were active members in their Church, and brought their boys to church. Upon retirement in 1987, they moved to Lakes of Leesburg. They absolutely loved their retirement lifestyle, playing golf, relaxing on the porch, and hosting family guests. They continued to spend Summers in Maine where they were close to friends and grandchildren. After Tommy passed away, Jean continued living at Lakes of Leesburg drawing strength from her family and friends. Jean was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Eustis where she enjoyed a wonderful congregation. Jean was also a sports fanatic and enjoyed the excitement of tennis, basketball, baseball and football, often calling people during the games to share her excitement. Jean especially loved her cousin Nancy and sister Vail, and always loved seeing her boys, and others close to her.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas P. Swain on March 4, 2012 and her son, Jonathan Swain in 2001. Jean is remembered and will be dearly missed by her son, Doug (Marion) Swain of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Timothy Swain of Marin County, CA, and Mark (Tiffany) Swain of High Springs, Florida; sister, Vail Smith of Arizona and 8 grandchildren, Piper, Matthew, Luke, Mia, Jack, Ben, Reebeka, and Seth.
Jean developed Alzheimer’s Disease and her sons had the opportunity to care for her, as she cared for them her whole life. Please support Alzheimer’s research and watch for signs of dementia with loved ones.
A memorial ceremony will be scheduled at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The family will issue details and invitations. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared on the tribute wall.
