Joe Koester
Jay and I were first friends in high school in Clermont in the 8th and 9th grades, and lived almost next door to one another. We remained friends even though separated when he attended Bowles Military Academy and the Howey Academy. After graduation we went our separate ways and reconnected as adults many years ago. It was like we hadn't been apart, and no time had passed. We would get together when I visited Florida, and he came up to Tennessee to visit with me a few years ago. We shared a lot of memories together.
Others have said he never spoke a harsh word about anyone else, and that speaks volumes about a person's character. He was a gentle and kind person and a pleasure to be with. I spent January and February in Eustis and was able to visit with him frequently during his illness, and he was always glad to see me. I am grateful for our time together, and I miss him very much. May God Bless Jay and his family.
