I was honored to serve with Jim at the Navy Band in Washington, DC. He was a terrific shipmate and friend. His concern and support of fellow members of the Navy Band is something that I will always remember. He was truly a very important part of the success of the Navy Band during his time serving there. Again, was an honor to serve with him and call him a shipmate. I am sad to know he is no longer sharing this wonderful world with us, but will value my friendship and wishing him restful peace.

I just learned about Jim's passing through our Navy Band Alumni Association. We served together many years with the U.S. Navy Band. My memories of Jim will be of his incredibly kind nature, his personal care in working with and for his friends and shipmates in the band, and of his gentle, intelligent and calm nature at all times. Words never express fully what the heart feels, and while we haven't corresponded since those days, you should know we share your loss and hope that good memories bring a smile in the days ahead. Jim was one of the best people we all knew.

Sincere sympathy to Jim's family. I was at the Navy Band from 1969 until I retired in 1980. Jim and I shared stories over a cup of coffee most every day we were there. I served in an audio capacity for all the groups of the band and always checked in with Jim for details for gigs. I miss those days and will think of Jim often as I think of the experiences of that time and the quality of organization Jim brought to his profession there. It saddened us greatly to hear of the passing of Brother Jim Hobbs. We know he is enjoying his homecoming and our prayers will be for his family. Every thought I have of Brother Jim is one of a humble and gifted servant of Jesus Christ. Many would point to his musical abilities as his greatest strength. I agree he was a great talent, however, in my mind his greatest gift was that he possessed a servants heart and he followed his master. We remember him with love and appreciation and know that his spirit would point us to this truth, "To God be the glory, great things He hath done."
