James W. Graham's Obituary
James W. Graham died at the age of 81 on June 8, 2022 from Alzheimer’s disease at his home with his loving wife and caregiver, Kathie, by his side.
Born on October 4, 1940 to Robert and Alma Graham of Ligonier, Pennsylvania, James (Jim) grew up in Ligonier Valley with his three siblings; Robert G. Graham, (deceased), Thomas B. Graham (deceased), and his surviving sister, Anna G. Morck.
After graduating from high school in 1958, Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Tri-State University before enlisting in the United States Navy where he served two tours of duty in Viet Nam piloting the Martin P5M Marlin flying boat.
In 1967 he began a successful career as a commercial airline pilot with National Airlines and Pan American World Airways where he rose to the rank of Captain. In 1980 he married Kathie Kessler (Graham) who was a flight attendant and the love of his life.
Before the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s disease, Jim will be remembered for his kind, gentle and loving nature. He shared laughter and joy with all those around him. Looking at the brighter side of life, Jim was very creative as an artist and musician. He loved astronomy, nature, animals and travel. Throughout their 42 years of marriage, Jim and Kathie rescued and found homes for many stray cats and often adopted them into their own home. A love of wildlife was a shared passion.
Loving memories of Jim will be carried into the future by his soul mate and wife, Kathie, his sister and her husband, Anna and Tim Morck, his sister-in-law and her husband, Gail and Bob Nunn, as well as many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers or other contributions, treat yourself to a nice bottle of wine or a special dinner that ends in a toast to the memory of Jim who was an exceptional human being.
