Harvey E. Felske's Obituary
Harvey E. Felske of Grand Island, Florida passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. He was 97. Harvey was born in Bay City, Michigan. He graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1942 and enlisted in the US Marine Corp the day after graduating. He proudly served his country in the Marines for 2 years in World War II. After returning home, he played semi-pro football with the Bay City Blazers.
Harvey went to work for Dow Corning in Midland, Michigan. He retired as Maintenance Department Supervisor after 30 years. He met the love of his life, Colleen Alspach, and they were married in 1952.
He moved to Grand Island and settled in Sunlake Estates. Harvey loved to play softball and help to develop the softball field at Sunlake in the early 1980’s. He played on the Sunlake Scrub Jays softball team for many years. He also served on the Sunlake Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders, where he was the longest serving member.
Harvey loved to travel in his Air Stream travel trailer. He and Colleen visited 46 states including Alaska, most of the Canadian provinces and Mexico. Later in life, he learned wood carving and was very talented at carving wooden ducks.
Harvey was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Felske and Gary Felske and his grandson, Michael Dillon. He is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 72 years, Colleen; son, Mark Felske of Mesick, Michigan; daughter, Lori Dillon of California; brother, Kenneth Felske of Bay City, Michigan; grandchildren, Logan Felske of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Zackery Dillon of Sarasota, Florida, Justin Dillon of Sarasota, and Shawn Dillon-Emigh of Brandon, Florida; as well as 9 great-grandchildren.
He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
