Geraldine B. "Jerri" Fowler's Obituary
Geraldine B. Fowler – known to everyone in her life as Jerri – died August 28 at the age of 96 in Stuart, Florida, where she had lived since 2014. Jerri was the daughter of Clarence and Jennie (nee Welsh) Hooper and was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. She met her husband, Carl, while working at Amoco in Baltimore where they married in 1952. After son Jeff was born, they moved to Atlanta, GA where Carl was the Southeast Regional Manager for Amoco. Son Bill was born in Atlanta and, in 1962, the family moved to Mount Dora, FL where Carl became the City Clerk until his death in 1976. Jerri was a fixture in Mount Dora. She was a friend to generations of Mount Dora High School students, where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. Jerri and Carl lived for their two boys, and they attended hundreds of football, basketball, baseball games and dozens of track meets; they missed only a handful. Jerri is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl and her sister, Anita. She is survived by Jeff and his wife, Jean, who live in a suburb of St. Louis, MO; Bill and his wife, Debbie, who live in Stuart, FL., where they lovingly cared for Jerri in the last years of her life. Jerri was blessed with many grandchildren – Ryan Fowler, David Fowler (Jennifer), Alexandra Fowler, Jessica Jackson, Brooks Jackson, Gina Davia (Ralph), and Anthony Rubino (Christina), as well as six great grandchildren – Dawson, Owen, Aiden, Greyson, Callan, and Kaley, all of whom she loved with all her heart. She was always there for anyone who needed her - whether it was a ride to the doctor, researching someone’s problem, or just listening - Jerri was available and ready to help. She loved her home on Helen Street, where she lived for almost 47 years; and she lived independently for all but the last few months of her 96 years.
She was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend ever. Her family is so sad without her; but heaven just became a much happier place.
A celebration of Jerri’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, at First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora. A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, Jerri’s family asks that donations be made to the following:
