Gayle Roberta Heaney's Obituary
Gayle Roberta Heaney of Mount Dora passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the age of 89. She was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. As a young lady she met the love of her life, Donald S. Heaney. Donald was serving is the US Air Force. She and Donald moved to Florida in 1957. Gayle enjoyed being around people. She was also great with numbers and went to work for NASA as an administrator during the Apollo missions. After her career with NASA, Gayle decided to try her hand as an entrepreneur and purchased the Heavenly Hams franchises in the state of Florida. Later, she opened the Mid-Florida Marble Company and was very successful. She had a knack for interior designing and her home was in numerous home and garden magazines. Her most impressive feat was the family she raised and nothing was more important to her than loving us and helping us succeed. She impressed upon us that when much is given in life, much is expected of us to give back.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Captain Donald S. Heaney, USAF (RET) in March 2013 after 62 years of marriage. She was also preceded by two daughters, Michelle Phillips and Diane Heaney Post; her brother, Jack Knott; and sister, Thelma Knott. Gayle is remembered and will be dearly missed by her son, Michael Heaney of Eustis; grandsons, Dr. Donald Post (Heath Story) of Orlando, and Matthew Richardson of Mount Dora.
A Celebration of Life will be held soon. Please check back for details.
