Mary Winsor
My name is Mary Winsor and Gene was my fiance' and the very center of my world. This was my eulogy at his funeral:
I only shared the last two years of Gene's life and we had planned so many more. However, in terms of personal growth, I believe we both ran marathons side by side. I learned that never having regrets means living life to the best of your ability and realizing that even a little Love is better than no Love at all. We always took each day freshly, expecting that we would support each other and share whatever came our way.
When I first met Gene I was intrigued by his keen intelligence and ready wit. I noticed a man of impeccable honesty and brutal awareness of the realities of life, yet who knew how to enjoy the beauty of a sunrise and the joy of making music as he sang karaoke. Later on I began to respect not only his intellect, but his introspection because it mirrored much of the way that I thought as well.
When we began to live together a year ago, the challenge created was thoroughly met by a constant assurance of loving each other and working through our struggles to reach a relationship founded on trust and compassion.
I believe that my existence is richer for having shared so deeply in his life. I am forever changed and blessed by having been his partner and confidant. I am also grateful for the living legacy that is his wonderful family.
I thank you Gene always and forever for sharing these last two years with me.
I LOVE YOU
