Ernest C. Kappotis' Obituary
Ernest C. Kappotis, 87, of Leesburg, Florida, husband of Susan (Capachietti) Kappotis, passed away, on Friday, November 23, 2018. Ernie was born in Peabody, MA on August 11, 1931. He was a graduate of Peabody High School with the Class of 1946. After high school, Ernie was a truck driver and attended evening classes at Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and then went on to take day classes at Massachusetts Radio & Television School in Boston.
Ernie enlisted with the U.S. Navy, and served on the USS English DD696. Before his Honorable discharge in May of 1955 he reached the rank of IC-3 Class "A". He received the National Defense Service Medal & the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He was extremely proud to have served our country. After completing his time in the service, he graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Industrial Engineering.
He married Susan on August 30, 1986 and had been her husband for 32 years. They had an unbreakable and loving bond throughout their marriage. He worked at Sylvania in Danvers, MA for many years. After retirement, he worked at Market Basket in Middleton, MA and was known in the deli for passing out free cheese. After spending a few winters in Florida with Susan, they decided to make Florida their permanent home. He lived at the Bonefire Mobile Village for the past 13 years and made many new friends. Always needing to keep busy, Ernie found part time work as a Lock Attendant. Everyone knew Ernie because of his friendly, outgoing personality, and love of life. He could always be heard whistling a tune. He was willing to lend a hand and spent countless hours volunteering wherever there was a need. He was a Junior Warden and an Acolyte at St. Andrew Antiochian Orthodox Church in Eustis, FL. He was a proud active member of both the Mason’s and the Shriner’s. He was an avid reader, New England sports fan and loved spending time with his family. A very loving, dear, wonderful man has left an indelible impression on his family, as well as his friend’s lives and he will be missed very much.
He is survived by his wife Susan, his four children, Linda, Kenneth, Michael “Scott” and Pamela, three stepchildren, Richard, Cheryl and Jennifer, 2 siblings (predeceased by 5 siblings), 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family and friends are cordially invited to visit on Monday, December 3, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the funeral home. Formal services will be held on Tuesday, December 4, at 10:00 am at the St. Andrew Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 2815 S. Bay Street, Eustis. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Florida National Cemetery following the church service.
