I met Elmo in 1970 when he first arrived in Leesburg He was Hitchhiking along with his wife Barbra... Their car had broke down.. we became instant friends I sold him a motorcycle and we were business partners in many small businesses and best friends until I moved away in1977. I am so sorry to hear of his passing...
My heart sunk when I read Mr Adams had passed. I remember the first Mac I ever got and you could name the Hard Drive. I named it the geekiest coolest computer thing I could think of .... Elmo. For 30 years my WiFi networks my computer HD have all been named Elmo. And I have worked for some big companies in the IT world and yes there are core systems in a few fortune 50 companies with the name Elmo... I think he would have LOL about that.
At the TOP of my page, of all time GREATEST teachers. He also turned out to be a great friend, after school was over, through the years. Love you, you old "Goat".
I too was a student of Mr. Adams and so very much enjoyed his classes!
He was definitely a favorite of our class and many others!
Rest well sir!
Elmo was my friend for forty years. He was my children’s teacher and my fellow teacher, and we did theatre together. We socialized together over the years and had many mutual friends and loved ones. We will remember him always. (And we have his dog, Abbra, who is doing well.)
Elmo Adams was one of my favorite teachers ever. He never “talked down” to us and encouraged us to think for ourselves and problem solve.
Respect begets respect. Elmo modeled that and I am mindful of that valuable lesson in my own teaching.
Fare thee well, Mr. Adams
I was one of Elmo's former Eustis High School students from the 1980s. The world was bitten by the technology bug, and Elmo taught a computer programming class in the high school library. I was mediocre at best. Elmo (St. Elmo to me) kept his patience as he worked with the students with his quiet demeanor and sharp wit.
Towering above us with his large stature and presence, he would encourage students to not get so worked up about computers because most likely it was, "going to go the way of the metric system". Computers stayed and the memories fade, but it was individuals like Elmo that kept high school bearable for many of us.
Outside of school, I knew Elmo because of his volunteerism at Bay Street Players and through his relationship with Deborah Carpenter. At cast parties and gatherings, he would laugh and fill a room with joy. He was a gentle bear with a kind spirit. Thank you for making the world a better place. Love and light to your friends and family.
I’ve known Elmo since I was 9 or 10 years old, first as my gifted teacher, soon after that as a fellow actor at Bay Street Players, later as a high school teacher, and always as a friend who was like family.

Elmo was a special friend, and an extra friend when I needed it most. I will miss him but know he is in a wonderful place. Thoughts and prayers to his family and many friends. Laura Passen
