Edward DeBoer's Obituary
Celebrating the life of Edward DeBoer
Edward DeBoer, known as Master Chief to most, died on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at his home in Leesburg Florida. Edward was diagnosed with his first type of cancer in 2002. His strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of his family and friends helped him with his valiant fight. Cancer did not beat Master Chief. He put up a hard fight for 12 years.
Edward was born in Holland on May 18, 1927 to Jacob and Anna DeBoer. He was blessed with Garry, Everett, Herman, and Nellie as his siblings. Edward proudly served in the United States Navy in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was a Purple Heart recipient and retired from the Navy after serving 30 years. Edward is survived by his wife of 36 years, Hao, who he met in Vietnam, and by his three children, Eddie, Janelle, and Joanne. The love and devotion Edward had for his family were remarkable.
Master Chief was proud of his military career, his family, and his country. If you knew him, you would probably say that he always had a smile on his face and always wanted to make people laugh.
We will celebrate Edward’s life with a viewing at Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home on Friday, November 7th from 4pm-7pm. We will continue to honor and celebrate at Lake Square Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 8th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Edward DeBoer be given to Disabled American Veterans or Lake Square Presbyterian Church.
Godspeed Master Chief!
