Dorothy Duncan Tabone's Obituary
Dorothy Louise “Dot” (Nolen) Duncan Tabone, 91, of Mount Dora, passed away on May 8, 2015 at Cornerstone Hospice in Tavares, Florida, following a brief illness. Dot was born in Alamo, Tennessee and married Melvel Duncan in 1949. She was an avid gardener and president of the Brookville Garden Club for many years. As a member of the local chapter of the AHRC, a charitable organization serving disabled adults, she organized fund raisers, a favorite being The Casino Night. Dot was a gourmet cook who was a master at combining herbs, exotic spices and edible flowers to craft meals that only she could create. She was a hostess extraordinaire, beyond compare. Dot played golf, loved to dance, travel, and attend gala events. Over her life she traveled extensively and lived in Saint Louis, Kansas City, MO, Long Island, NY, Atlanta, GA, Tokyo, Japan, Vienna, Austria, Hilton Head, SC, Pine River, MN, Eustis and Mt Dora, FL.
In 2003 she met the second love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Tabone of Mount Dora. They were married for 11 blissful years. Dot and Tony enjoyed going on cruises, sharing time together, and socializing with friends at Waterman Village. She spent many special times with Tony’s family of 6 children, 23 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. She loved them all dearly as they did her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Lex Nolen and beloved husband of 53 years, Melvel. Dorothy is survived by the second love of her life and husband of 11 years, Anthony Tabone of Mount Dora; brother, James Nolen, Alamo, Tennessee; children: Bradley (Tracy) Duncan of Madison, Wisconsin; Mylah Duncan of Phoenix, Arizona; and grand daughter Emily Duncan, Madison, Wisconsin. She is also survived by Tony’s children Stephen (Angela) Tabone of Washington, D.C., Helen Tabone of Lawrence, KS, Anne (Jerry) Nardone of Merrick, NY, Therese Tabone of Mount Dora, FL, Toni (Patrick) Kinnel of Pensacola, FL, Christopher (Suzanne) Tabone of Brattleboro, VT, and Joseph (Laura) Tabone of Toms River, NJ as well as 23 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
A special thanks to the time and devotion of Terry Tabone, a step daughter-in-law, friend, companion and “girl Friday.” She provided Dot with invaluable assistance with day to day affairs and logistics over the past decade. We express deep gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Cornerstone Hospice, Tavares who provided tender care to both Dot and her family during the last week of her life. A memorial service will be held for her in Pine River, MN where she will be laid to rest with her husband Mel. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Rd, Tavares, FL 32778 or New Vision for Independence, 9501 US Hwy 441, Leesburg, FL 34788.
