Dorothy E. Freeman's Obituary
Dorothy Erickson Freeman age 90, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away, Tuesday March 29th,
2022 after a courageous battle with dementia. Dorothy was born in Wapala, Illinois on December 12, 1931 to the late John & Luella Ferguson. She was married to her first husband, Earl D Erickson who passed away unexpectedly in 1974 and then later married her surviving husband, Rodney W Freeman of 40 years. She moved to Eustis, Florida after retiring from Southern Bell, where she was one of the first women to be promoted as a Business Office manager there.
Dorothy enjoyed family celebrations and was known for her Christmas Eve buffets that she cooked
and prepared for many years. Traveling in their motorhome was her passion, making numerous trips
to Alaska, as well as spending summers in North Carolina. Dorothy was a long time member of
Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Eustis where she was actively involved for many years in the youth
group ski trips. She also had many hobbies that included entertaining, decorating, square dancing,
traveling, cooking, & camping.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Rodney, her cherished siblings Fran (Mary) Ferguson of
Deland, Florida, Sandi (Joe) Terlizzese, of Vero Beach, Florida and Jim (Pat) Ferguson of Maggie
Valley, NC. She will be dearly missed by her children, Bill Erickson of Eustis, Florida, Margie (Bob)
Lee of Orange Park, Florida and Kenny (Linda) Erickson of Leesburg, Florida, Robyn Freeman of
Gainesville, Florida and Michael Freeman as well as 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy’s celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 21st 2022, at 2 p.m. in
Orange Park, Florida
