Donald John Welke's Obituary
Donald John Welke 71 of Eustis passed away in The Villages on Thursday October 1, 2009. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved to Eustis from Casselberry in 1980. Mr. Welke was retired from the United States Postal Service and had served as the Postmaster for Grand Island, Florida, he was also a former officer in the Florida Post Master Association and was the Past President of the Spina Bifida Association of Central Florida. Mr. Welke was an avid auto racing fan attending several Indianapolis 500s and the last Daytona race on the beach and the first Daytona 500. He was also a Green Bay Packer fan and an active table tennis player, a member of the Smart Car Club of the Villages and loved to travel the world. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, a member of Eustis Lodge 1578 B.P.O.E. and of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis. He is survived by his wife of 49 ½ years Maryann, his children, Cynthia (Frank) Fogarty of Sorrento, Brian (Teresa) Welke of Eustis, Paul Welke Hathcox of Tavares and Georgeta Welke of Eustis, his grandchildren Frank Fogarty, Caitlin Fogarty, Christopher Welke and Alexander Welke his brother Marvin Welke of Brookfield, Wisconsin and his stepmother Elizabeth Welke of Brookfield, Wisconsin. The family requests memorials to Mt. Dora Lions Club Ritterband Foundation, P.O. Box 131, Mt. Dora, Florida 32756 or the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis. Friends called at the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Monday, October 5. The Funeral Mass was held in St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis.
