Obituary for Donald “Don” Lanier Moore
Donald “Don” Lanier Moore, 74, of Eustis, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026. He was born on January 15, 1952, in Auburn, Alabama, on the Auburn University campus, to the late Frazier Lanier Moore and Mary Francis Moore.
Don lived a life defined by curiosity, compassion, and connection. A lifelong learner, he pursued education not only for himself but with a passion for sharing it with others. He taught Economics at the University of Illinois and English as a Second Language at the Lake County Library, touching countless lives through patience, empathy, and encouragement.
In 1986, Don moved to Florida, where he built a full and vibrant life. He was a business owner, and a proud member of the Vulcan Motorcycle Riders Association, a community that brought him lasting friendship and adventure. Deeply committed to serving others, he volunteered at Lake Cares Food Pantry and Open Door, giving generously of his time and spirit.
A gifted athlete throughout his life, Don played basketball for Auburn University and enjoyed golf later in life. He loved to read, to travel the world, and to embrace every opportunity to grow and experience something new.
Don married the love of his life, Susan, on December 21, 1985, in Joliet, Illinois. Together they recently celebrated 40 wonderful years of marriage, built on devotion, laughter, and shared journeys.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Moore; his children Ryan Nichols, Melissa (Eric) Meli, and Elizabeth (Michael) Broschart; siblings Mark Moore and Joseph Armstrong; grandchildren Vriska, Mya, and Margaret; and his great-aunt Sue Jenkins.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 1:00–1:30 PM, with a service to follow at 1:30 PM, at the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Lake Cares Food Pantry in honor of his lifelong commitment to service.
