Clarence Wilbur Fickel's Obituary
Clarence Wilbur Fickel went to meet his Maker on October 8, 2018 in Mt Dora, Florida, where he resided for the last 15 years. He had lived a long, rewarding, happy and prosperous life for 94 years. Clarence was born on November 9, 1923, in Minier, Illinois to Clarence and Mamie Fickel. He joined the Air Force at age 19, attended the University of Denver and became a pilot during World War II. After the war, he worked for the Atomic Commission performing geological surveys searching for uranium and then was a pilot for various corporations. He married Paula in 1979 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Clarence lived both in Tulsa and Mt Dora, where his interests included aviation, woodcarving, lawn bowling, golf, and collecting antiques. He was active in the Methodist church. Survivors include his wife Paula, children Claudia Altshuler and her husband Larry, Sandy Marlow and her husband Harry, Karla Beaman and her husband Bill, and Andrea Gorman. Also included are 9 grandchildren, Destiny, Lindsey, Genevieve, Ben, Vanessa, David, Charlie, Wade, and Lauren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and his cairn terrier, Walter. There will be a Celebration of Life at Mt. Dora Country Club, TBD, and a personal Celebration of Life for family and close friends in Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Vitas Healthcare (Hospice), 127 N Bay St, Suite 200, Eustis FL 32726. Special thanks to Dr. Nagel and her staff for years of loving care and support.
