Charles Jonathan Champion's Obituary
Charles Jonathan Champion, Senior, “Jack”, passed away in his sleep on September 12, 2017, at 80 years of age. Born on March 7, 1937, in Quincy, Florida, he was the son of Homer Chappell Champion and Agness Mygnon Bush Champion. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Julie Milam Champion of Eustis; sister Mygnon Champion Evans, Lakeland; sons Benjamin Laurens Champion, Mount Dora; Charles Jonathan Champion, Junior, Victoria, British Columbia; and close cousin, Julia Champion Chancy, Gotha. Grandchildren include Joshua Ender Walker, Lauren Elizabeth Adams, Emma Kate Adams, Douglas Johnny Champion, Jessica Bryn Champion, and Skyler Coltan Champion. Grandcousins include Caitlin Chancy Young, Olan Jasper Chancy, III, Hailey Owens and Madison Owens, plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jack was an alumnus of Leon High School 1955 and The Florida State University 1959. He was the Captain and Company Commander of the Tallahassee and the Orlando Army National Guard units.
The Eagle Scout Award was Jack’s first step in his service to the Boy Scouts of America. He worked at Camp Semilachee as a counselor several summers. As a member of the Order of the Arrow, he was Lodge Chief, Area Chief, and Assistant to the National Conference Chief. Besides achieving Vigil Honor, he was awarded the OA National Distinguished Service Award. He was the president of Iota Rho Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. From 1960 to 1962, he served Lake County as District Scout Executive. Later, he was the Scoutmaster of Maitland Troop 625 and President of the Central Florida Council and Silver Beaver honoree.
Jack enjoyed a 54-year career as a life insurance agent and financial planner. Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Planner were his professional designations. He was a Life Member of the Million Dollar Roundtable.
Memorial services for Jack Champion will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2017, beginning at 1:00 PM, at the Cassia Community Club, 29245 State Road 44, Eustis, FL 32736. Jack's son, Ben, will lead the service. A covered dish dinner will follow the service. All friends, family and Cassia Community Club members and musicians are welcome.
