Carl Melvin Cox's Obituary
Carl Melvin Cox (USAF RET) of Grand Island, Florida passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the age of 84. He was born in Wichita, Kansas to John A. and Edna L. Cox. In 1955, at the age of 17, Carl joined the US Air Force and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He had a distinguished 30-year career and retired as Chief Master Sergeant in 1985. While serving, he met his future bride, Margaret and they were married on August 13, 1960. After his military career, Carl settled in Swansea, Illinois and went to work for the US Postal Service for 12 years. He had a great talent for playing the guitar and singing.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Margaret on March 5, 2013. He was also preceded by his brother, James Cox, and sisters, Viola Whitman and Billie Johnson. Carl is remembered and will be dearly missed by his daughters, Shari Dunlap (Mike Kennedy) of Floral City, Florida and Susie Raab (Sam) of Keystone Heights, Florida; brother, John Cox (Henri) of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Helen Ball (Lenn) of Wichita; grandchildren, Jennifer Sadberry (Rick) of Tallahassee, Florida, Ali Markley (Brad) of Jacksonville, Florida, Sydney Dunlap of Florida, Hannah Raab, Chloe Raab, Kevin Raab and Steven Raab, all of Keystone Heights; and great grandchildren, Kendall Sadberry of Tallahassee, Shai Dunlap of Florida and Colton Markley of Jacksonville, Florida.
