Billy J. Mattis' Obituary
Billy J. Mattis of Leesburg, Florida passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the age of 73 years. The youngest of five children, Bill was born in Lewisburg, Ohio to Everett James and Nellie Mae (Shirley) Mattis. Bill proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a front-line medic for 2 ½ years in Vietnam. Back in the states, Bill went to work for General Motors Corporation where he worked on the painting and production of automobiles, including Postal Service vehicles. He dedicated more than 30 years to GM. Bill loved boating and fishing. He had a cabin on Indian Lake in Ohio where he enjoyed many good times on his pontoon boat. Bill wintered in Florida as a snowbird for 15 years before moving to the area permanently about 10 years ago. He was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mount Dora. Bill loved Corvettes and still owned one of three that he had purchased through the years. He was a member of the Touch of Glass Corvette Club in Tavares, as well as the American Legion Post #347. He also enjoyed a good game of Golf. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Edward and Donald Eugene, and sisters Dorothy Jean Robbins and Judy Ann Lindsey. Bill is remembered and will be dearly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Tony Gonzalez of Jacksonville, Florida; 3 grandchildren, Erica DeMarco, Anthony DeMarco and Angelo DeMarco, all of Jacksonville and his fiancée, Barbara A. Smith of Leesburg.
